The shift away from plastic baby products has accelerated in recent years — and not just because of marketing. The Microplastics Problem

The researchers estimated that Australian infants could be exposed to between 14,600 and 4.5 million microplastic particles per day, depending on feeding method and preparation conditions.
A 2024 review published in the journal Life confirmed that infants are a particularly high-risk group: their metabolising enzymes are less developed, their gut barriers are more permeable, and their immune systems are still maturing — all of which make microplastic clearance harder and potential effects more pronounced. Long-term implications are still being studied, but the precautionary case is clear.

Is BPA-free plastic actually safe?
Not necessarily. Most BPA-free plastics use BPS or BPF as replacements, and research through 2024–2025 shows these chemicals have similar endocrine-disrupting properties. The EU banned all three as of January 2025. For food-contact products that touch heat, food-grade silicone or stainless steel are safer choices.
What does "food-grade silicone" mean?
